ABOUT THE SHOW

A COPY OF THE SCRIPT IS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST AT THE THEATRE

We highly suggest reading the script before the audition. Perusal copies of the script are available during business hours at Circle Theatre.

Josh Cohen just can’t get a break. He’s single, broke, and to top it all off, his apartment’s been robbed of everything but a Neil Diamond CD. Soon though, his luck takes a turn when a mysterious envelope arrives that changes his life forever. Thus begins the hilarious and quirky romantic comedy about a good guy caught in a lifelong battle with bad luck.

CHARACTER ROLES

Seeking the Following

Seeking actors, musicians and vocalists with comic acting ability, medium to proficient ability to play any musical instrument a plus, but not a requirement of casting.

Note: The Role of NarratorJosh has been Pre-Cast

Josh Cohen: Male, 20-40s

bari-tenor; an empathetic, kind, and lovable mess; is broke and perpetually single, but a good person who does the right thing at any cost; he gets robbed, rejected, and is faced with an enormous moral dilemma which tests the limits of his goodwill; strong baritone/tenor with great comic timing; any and all instrument ability is very helpful, but not necessary. Ethnicity: Any Ethnicity

Narrator Josh (Swing Information Only): Male, 20-40s

tenor; engaging, and charming in a geeky cool way; he never leaves the stage, telling the story of what happened to him a year ago as it gets played out by another actor; part troubadour, part stand-up comic, the role requires a strong tenor voice, and an ease talking to an audience; while it would be nice for Narrator Josh and Josh to have a physical resemblance, it is not necessary; their comedic rapport is far more important. Good rhythm guitar skills required; other instrument ability a plus but not required. Ethnicity: Any Ethnicity

Woman 1: Female, 20-40s

a comic tour de force: someone great with varied characterizations, who can also be real; strong singing voice required, and musical instrument ability helpful but not required. Ethnicity: Any Ethnicity

Woman 2: Female, 20-40s

a rockstar role; a strong singer (comfortable with rock); plays many comic characters with numerous featured vocals; instrument ability a major plus but not required. Ethnicity: Any Ethnicity

Man 1: Male, 30-50s

a role for a hilarious musical theatre actor; roles include a gruff landlord, Josh’s curmudgeonly father and a disgruntled middle manager; musical instrument ability a major plus but not required. Ethnicity: Any Ethnicity

One male and One female swing will also be cast.
